Hot Wallet

Digital wallet connected to the internet to manage cryptocurrencies quickly and affordably.

WHAT IS IT? · FOR DUMMIES

A hot wallet is like a digital wallet that's always connected to the internet so you can send, receive or use your cryptocurrency instantly. It's very practical for everyday use, but being permanently online also makes it more vulnerable to theft if you do not protect it properly.

WHAT IS IT? · PRO

Hot wallet is a cryptocurrency storage application or software that remains Connected to the internet, allowing the user to access, send or receive digital assets quickly and constantly. It is designed to facilitate frequent operations, such as payments, trading or interaction with dApps, through web browsers, extensions, mobile apps, desktops, or API integrations.

Among the most popular hot wallets are MetaMask, Trust Wallet, Phantom or Coinbase Wallet, and can operate on multiple blockchains (Ethereum, Solana, BNB Chain, etc.). Private keys are stored inside the device (in the browser, mobile or local software) and are necessary to sign transactions. This permanent connection to the online environment provides high usability, but also greater exposure to cybersecurity risks, such as phishing, malware, keyloggers, or unauthorized access.

Although some hot wallets allow advanced configuration such as multiple accounts, gas control, connection to hardware wallets (for increased security), or partial signatures (EIP-712), they are still more suitable for active uses and not as long-term storage. Its ideal function is to act as a bridge between the user and the blockchain network to execute fast and precise actions.

In professional environments, it is recommended to complement hot wallets with additional security systems (2FA, secure connections, strong passwords, multiple signatures or integration with cold wallets) and limit the funds held there, keeping only what is needed for day-to-day operations in the hot wallet.
