ART (Asset-Referenced Token)
An ART is a crypto-asset regulated by MiCA that stabilises its value by referencing several assets or currencies.
What is it? - Dummies
An ART is like a shopping basket turned into a token: instead of depending on a single price, it leans on a mix of several currencies, commodities or other assets to stay stable. That way it tries to avoid the typical swings of cryptocurrencies. It is one of the stablecoins that European rules watch closely.
What is it? - PRO
An ART (Asset-Referenced Token) is, under MiCA Regulation (EU) 2023/1114, a type of crypto-asset that aims to maintain a stable value by referencing another value or right, or a combination of both, including one or several official currencies. It differs from an EMT, which references a single official currency.
Its issuance requires prior authorisation, an approved white paper and sufficient asset reserves. Significant issuers are placed under enhanced supervision by the European Banking Authority (EBA).
